Looking down onto Lough Tay in Wicklow, Ireland from a high vantage point with a double rainbow in the forground. Click on the Image to see a larger version, and to purchase/license.
I posted an image on Saturday from my recent dawn shoot at Lough Tay in the Wicklow Mountains where I managed to capture a rainbow just appearing on the cliffs at the same time the sun was cresting the mountains. Well this image was taken about 2 1/2 hours later when I returned to the same spot after a bit of reconnoiter further up the mountains for possible future sites for shooting. By this stage the rain had settled in with some heavy showers. Yes I realise there is some blue sky in my image but Ireland is the land of the Sunshower after all!
Technical details are a bit sketchy on this one given the weather conditions. In essence it was some previsualisation, keep the camera down by my side with lens down to keep the rain off it, then raise the camera, compose, shoot, use an air-blower to remove the water from the lens, check what I got on the LCD and then repeat until I was happy I had the right shot. I did use a polariser on this image to help to bring out the colours of the rainbow.
