While we are having some glorious Spring weather here in Ireland I decided to take a trip out to Glenmacnass Waterfall near Laragh in Co Wicklow. If you have seen any of my images of the upper lake in Glendelough you might have noticed this waterfall in the background.
The top image is taken from the very top of the falls looking down and across the valley. Although it was taken nearly two hours before sunset you can already see the beginnings of a soft warm glow touching the top of the mountain on the left side. The bottom image is taken from the very top of the falls looking back towards the falls source. What appealed to me in this image is the 5 separate mini-falls which feed the water in many different directions.
I used an CPL to take down the reflections being cast from the water. I also used a 3 stop ND Filter and shot at ISO50 which allowed for a 30 second exposure to soften the rushing water. Contrast was extremely high here between the foreground rocks and the sky, given the sky occupied such a small part of the image I opted to under-expose it 2 by stops. I then blended the two images in Photoshop using a mask.
