At dawn in Glendalough, the Upper Lake lies calm between steep valley sides, its surface reflecting the surrounding forest and hills. A line of partially submerged rocks leads into the frame, drawing the eye toward the narrowing valley where mist gathers low over the water.
Soft early light filters across the scene, warming the treetops and revealing subtle colour in the rock and forest while leaving the water largely undisturbed. The mist moves gently through the valley, blurring the boundary between land and reflection and reinforcing the sense of quiet that defines the moment.
In print, the layered depth of the image becomes more apparent. Fine detail in the stones beneath the water contrasts with the smooth reflections above, while the gradation between mist, forest, and sky reveals itself gradually, echoing the slow unfolding of the morning at the lake.
