“For nowhere either with more quiet or more freedom from trouble does a man retire than into his own soul, particularly when he has within him such thoughts that by looking into them he is immediately in perfect tranquility; and I affirm that tranquility is nothing else than the good ordering of the mind.” ~ Marcus Aurelius
Another image from my trip just before the end of last year (yikes is it February already!) to the beautiful lakes and mountains around Killarney in County Kerry. As I begin to work through my images from this trip I am astounded by the quality of light. Many photographers spoke of it but it really has to be seen to be believed. Kerry seems to do something rather magical with light and I cannot wait to return here.
This particular image is a 2 shot stitch taken at a section of the Upper Lakes just outside Killarney, towards the final hours of daylight. It was the bent tree, little more than bark and branches, that had caught my eye as I was driving past. I quickly found a safe place to park the car and walked back. I was rewarded with a scene beyond the initial tree that had caught my eye – the little inlet, reeds, calm lake, snow covered mountains and golden side lighting from the setting sun. This is actually just one of three compositions I came away with from this spot, and I am looking forward to publishing the others.
