“We have all a better guide in ourselves, if we would attend to it, than any other person can be.” ~ Jane Austen
Muglin’s Lighthouse based on a very small island off the coast at Dalkey near Coliemore Harbour could hardly be described as one of Ireland’s tallest, standing as it is at just 9 meters. But its diminutive size lends a certain attraction I find. It sits out there all alone on a tiny piece of rock, waiting to help guide ships away from the hidden rocks along the coast between Seapoint and Dalkey.
This is not the first time I have photographed this lighthouse. I produced a Black and White panoramic entitled Floating in July 2012 that went on to be one of my favourite images of that year. On this occasion I photographed it from a different location, a little closer to Coliemore Harbour. The weather on the day could be described as changeable given it was raining one minute and sunshine the next. Between both these conditions however the cloud cover and light were beautifully soft and perfect for the calm image I was hoping to capture on the day.
