“The only difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is the way in which we use them.” ~ Adriana Doyle
Last week I released an image entitled Last Light at Sandycove, a sunset from a recent trip to a location very close to me. I talked a good bit about making an effort to photograph locally more. Today I wanted to share a second image from that same outing and an image that could not be more different in terms of style.
Using a technique known as Long Exposure by utilising specialised filters known as Neutral Density filters I am able to extend the exposure time much longer then would be typically needed for the light that is present during the image capture process. In this case I used a combination of filters and camera setting to extend the exposure to 3 minutes. During that time the clouds continued to move towards me as the sea swept in and out. The camera captured this entire time on a single frame which creates this very ethereal image. In post production I converted it to Black and White and then re-tinted to this blue colour.
