“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” ~ Siddhārtha Gautama
I took a trip to Glenbarrow Woods in Co Laois a couple of weeks ago. This was my first trip to this spot, and was based on a recommendation by a friend. I certainly was not disappointed. The plan was to spend the morning walking a 7km loop which would take us through forests via a small river and waterfall. Things did not go quiet to plan once I saw the river and the amazing shapes and contours in the bedrock however. In fact I spent 4 hours working an area no more then a 100 meters.
As I walked up the river bank I came across this piece of driftwood caught on the ledge of one of the many gentle little falls dotted along the river. After walking the area I decided the strongest composition would be to look down into the swirling shapes made by the water cascading over the steps in the bedrock. The day was overcast which really helped to soften the light and draw out the beautiful green reflections of the surrounding forest in the calm part of the river. As is becoming an increasing trend for me I shared the BTS for the shot over on my Instagram account shortly after capturing it.
