“Let there be nothing within thee that is not very beautiful and very gentle, and there will be nothing without thee that is not beautiful and softened by the spell of thy presence.” ~ James Allen
Last week I released an image from my recent trip to Powerscourt Waterfalls, my first trip there in nearly 5 years. It also dawned on me that it was the 4th consecutive Black and White I had produced. Not sure where my mind was but I guess monotones were very appealing. Today however I return to colour and the 2nd image from that trip. While the main falls is what draws the crowds to this busy spot it is the many mini-falls that held my interest. The quieter spots away from the crowds, a place to think and take time in crafting a composition. As I think I mentioned already this was a cloudless day with intense sunshine, indeed it was those conditions that helped me produce the A Place to Think as it created those strong defined shadows. For this image however I was able to use the trees above to filter and disperse the sunshine so that it painted the surfaces with dabbled light.
While last weeks image was technically the first I produced from my new toys, this image is the first that actually takes advantage of what that new lens and adaptor combination offers me; namely both tilt and shift. I used about 2 degrees of tilt here which has allowed for front to back sharpness in the image; and I also shifted and then stitched the two images together in post to give this square composition. Overall I am extremely happy with my new toys and can already see how they will help me to continue my journey in exploring the world through my camera. I hope you will continue to stay along for the ride.
