Yup, not quite Moonrise over Hernandez but still something that has been on my to-do list for a long time. I wanted to capture a nice sharp image of the moon and had even downloaded an App on my iPhone to let me know in advance when the next full moon was. And of course I dutifully ignored those reminders for the last several months. But not this month! The full moon was actually on Saturday however there was a lot of heavy cloud and I could not get the image I wanted. I waited until Sunday night which was cloudless (yes that is pretty unusual for Ireland!) and set things up in my back garden. Yes I said my back garden, this must be one of the laziest images I have ever taken. However now that I know what I can achieve I think I’ll try something a little more creative next time.
This was one of the very few times I broke out my 2x Extender for the 70-200mm lens. Even at 400mm the moon occupied only about 15% of the frame. The above image is cropped quite a bit, however I am still very impressed with the level of detail I’ve managed to capture.
