After my morning catching the sunrise in Lough Tay last week I decided to round out the day with a trip to one of my favorite places, the Botanical Gardens here in Dublin. They have a great cafe that does a mean cappuccino and some very nice cakes 🙂 The gardens has planted a wonderful kids maze using sunflowers. While we are at the end of the season and many of the flowers were looking quite sad there were a few still in their full glory.
This image was shot handheld using my 100mm macro lens. While many of the heads were drooping this one was still staring up at the sky which, by this time was clear blue with intense sunshine. Yes, for those who read my sunrise blog earlier the sun did actually decide to come out! The strength of the sun was showing off the intense yellow of the flowers petals and I wanted to capture the contrast between these soft petals and the dark hard florets in the centre.
Did I succeed?
