Image of White Flowers with yellow stamen to the left against a black background with empty space on the right side.
Spring is here! That means I get to do one of my favorite things, photograph flowers. This image was captured in our Botanical Gardens here in Dublin where so much life has begun to bloom.
These flowers were sitting in one of the Glasshouses, reaching out beyond all the foliage to see the still fairly weak sun. I used f/4 to provide a very shallow depth of field at almost a 1:1 macro to ensure just the stamen was in focus. In the top image I used the black side of my reflector to block out the background and create some open space. In the bottom image I cropped much closer to the flower and used it’s own foliage to create the backdrop.
